Alternative to Vibe Kanban

Vibe Kanban centers on workspaces. Podium connects work through issues.

Both tools run coding agents on your machine. Vibe Kanban's local workspaces continue after the hosted sunset. In Podium, ask an agent to coordinate through persistent issues, track what blocks what and keep the results beside the work.

Choose Podium if…

  • Your work splits into tasks that wait on each other, and you want agents to track those links.
  • You'd rather describe a change in conversation and have your agent turn it into tasks you can edit.
  • You want one agent to hand tasks to others, say Claude Code to Codex, and still open any of them yourself in chat or its own CLI.

Choose Vibe Kanban if…

  • You already have work in Vibe Kanban and want to keep its workspace and branch-review workflow.
  • You want to leave comments directly on a diff and send them back to the agent.

One change, followed through both

Say you're building Folio, a form builder, with agents already on the editor, publishing and responses, and you want to add conditional questions that only appear after a yes.

  1. Step 1: Add it to the plan

    Podium

You ask the coordinator in chat. It creates the task under the form builder, records that it waits for the editor and publishing tasks, and makes the end-to-end check wait for it.

Podium capture The coordinator's reply, with each task linked. podium.do

    Vibe Kanban

Create a local workspace for the conditional-question change, select its repository and branch, and give the agent the brief. The project board has been retired; local workspace pages continue.

  2. Step 2: Run it in parallel

    Podium

The new task waits in the backlog, marked blocked, while agents finish the tasks it depends on. Sessions run in parallel across worktrees and paired machines, and you can open any agent and switch it between chat and its own CLI.

    Vibe Kanban

Run the editor and publishing changes in separate workspaces. Each workspace gets an isolated Git worktree, and you choose which coding agent to use. Keep each branch focused on one change so you can review it on its own.

  3. Step 3: See what's waiting on what

    Podium

Open the conditional-question task to check its recorded blockers, parent and dependent work. Keep it waiting while the editor and publishing tasks are unfinished.

Podium capture Every task in the plan with its state; the new task is blocked by two. podium.do

    Vibe Kanban

Open the workspace to follow its agent session and inspect the changed files. Review the editor and publishing branches before you begin the dependent conditional-question work. This example uses your review as the handoff between those changes.

  4. Step 4: Review the result

    Podium

Ask the agent to attach the prototype and check notes to the end-to-end check task, then post a review offer so you can accept the work or request changes. The files remain readable after the session ends.

Podium capture The finished check, with its artifacts on the task. podium.do

    Vibe Kanban

Review the diff in the changes panel. Add inline comments, send the feedback to the agent and inspect the next revision. When the branch is ready, use the Git workflow to merge it or create a pull request.

When keeping Vibe Kanban makes sense

  • The workspace you already know

If Vibe Kanban's workspace and branch-review workflow already suit you, you can keep using them after the hosted sunset. Try another tool on one new task before moving work in progress.

  • Feedback beside the changed code

The changes panel keeps diffs and inline review comments in the workspace. If you prefer to steer an agent by commenting on specific lines, that is a concrete reason to keep using it.

Try a move on one branch

Start with one small change in the same Git repository, on separate branches in each tool. Commit or otherwise preserve unfinished changes before moving between workspaces. Compare how you start the work, give feedback and review the result before moving a whole project.

Keep any Vibe Kanban data export you already have. The shutdown announcement introduced an export feature, but do not assume the hosted service can still retrieve old records. Recreate the next task and its important context in Podium manually, then add the blockers you need.

For Codex, configure your ChatGPT login or API key in the new environment and verify your plan's current allowance. Test one agent run before bringing over more work. For remote Podium sessions, include setup of a machine you will maintain in the evaluation.

Questions you might have

Do I have to stop using Vibe Kanban locally?
No. The shutdown announcement explicitly preserves local workspaces and says the project continues as open source. Separate the workspace you run on your machine from the hosted project and issue services when deciding what to replace.
Will my old hosted board move into Podium?
Plan a manual move of the tasks you still need. Keep your export as a reference, recreate the brief and blocking links, and move code through Git. This evaluation does not rely on a Vibe Kanban importer.
Can I ask an agent to manage the plan?
In Podium, ask an agent to coordinate. It can create issues, connect blockers and delegate work, while you can still open individual sessions. Start with a small group of related tasks to see whether that helps your workflow.
Who maintains a remote Podium host?
You do. Podium can run on a machine you own, including a VPS. Keeping the host running and managing its setup are part of that choice.
