Alternative to Cursor

Cursor organizes agent workspaces. Podium organizes tasks and what each waits on.

Both run agents in separate worktrees. Cursor starts work from prompts, editable plans, Slack or Linear and offers managed Cloud Agents. In Podium, ask your agent to coordinate Claude Code or Codex through shared issues and dependencies, on your machine or a VPS you maintain.

Choose Podium if…

  • You want agents tracking dependencies on a shared issue board.
  • You want Claude Code and Codex themselves doing the work, using your Claude or local ChatGPT login.
  • You'd rather describe a change in conversation and have your agent turn it into tasks you can edit.

Choose Cursor if…

  • You want managed agents working while your laptop is closed.
  • You start agent work from Linear issues or Slack.
  • You want to review pull request diffs and checks from an iPhone or iPad.

Add conditional questions to Folio

Say you're adding questions to Folio's form builder that appear only after a yes answer, while its editor and publishing flow are still being built.

  1. Step 1: Decide what needs to change

    Podium

Tell your agent how conditional questions should behave and ask it to add them to the plan. It creates the issue under the form builder and records that it waits for the editor and publishing issues; the requirements go in the issue brief, which you can edit as the design changes.

    Cursor

Start in Plan Mode and describe the same conditional-question behavior; the agent researches the codebase, asks questions and writes an editable plan before touching the implementation. Review that markdown directly or refine it through chat, then use Save to workspace to keep it with the repository.

  2. Step 2: Run the independent pieces

    Podium

The editor and publishing issues already have agents working in their own worktrees, and the board marks conditional questions as blocked by them. When they finish, ask your agent to start a session on the conditional-question issue with the harness and model you choose.

    Cursor

Use the Agents Window to run Folio's independent changes in separate local worktrees, or send work to Cloud Agents on a paid plan. The window lists your agents across local, cloud and remote SSH environments.

  3. Step 3: Check the finished behavior

    Podium

Ask the agent to attach an HTML version of the form and its test notes to the issue, then open them from the issue sidebar to check the conditional question. The files stay with the task after the session ends.

    Cursor

Read the agent's summary and test results, then open its draft pull request with screenshots, recordings or log references to check the form behavior. For a Cloud Agent run, you can take over its remote desktop to try the result yourself and send a follow-up through a GitHub or Bitbucket PR comment mentioning @cursor.

Where Cursor is the better pick

  • Managed remote work

Choose Cursor when you want the vendor to provision the machine for a remote agent. Cloud Agents run in isolated VMs, continue while your laptop is disconnected and include infrastructure in their model-based usage charges. You can return to the run through the web client.

  • Work starts where your team talks

Assign a Linear issue to Cursor and follow its status, or mention Cursor in Slack to receive progress and a pull-request link in the conversation.

  • Review from your phone

Cursor’s mobile review shows full diffs, comments and checks. You can inspect a pull request away from your desk.

Trying both

Try a small change in your own repository, with each tool working in its own checkout: Podium issues and Cursor's local agents both use Git worktrees. Review the code and decide which workflow suits you.

Your Claude or local ChatGPT login runs agents in Podium using your subscription capacity. Cursor bills through its own plans, and your own API keys there work with chat models only.

Cursor reads skills and subagents from .claude and .codex folders, and supports Claude Code-compatible hooks. Cursor runs those definitions in its own agent.

Questions you might have

Do I need several agents for every change?
No. Podium lets you create an issue without dispatching an agent, and you ask for coordination when you want it. In Cursor, one agent can build from a plan; run parallel agents when the work splits.
What happens if I close my laptop?
A Podium agent on a running VPS continues independently of your laptop; you maintain that server. Cursor Cloud Agents continue on their managed machines, with idle workspaces recycled and snapshots retained for up to 90 days of inactivity.
Can a teammate continue my Cursor agent?
Team members with their own source-control connection and repository access can see team agents, read-only by default. An administrator can allow follow-ups for service-account agents or for all members, so a teammate can send instructions to the same agent.
